Ammonium Sulphate Supplies nitrogen and sulphur together, in the sulphate form crops take up. Its acidifying effect is useful on alkaline soils and a constraint on already-acid ones.
Nitrate vs ammonium Nitrate nitrogen is immediately available and readily leached; ammonium is held on the soil exchange and released as it nitrifies. The choice is about timing as much as rate.
Dicyandiamide A nitrification inhibitor. It slows the bacterial conversion of ammonium to nitrate, which keeps nitrogen in the less leachable form for longer after application.
Sulphur is the quiet deficiency As atmospheric sulphur deposition has fallen, sulphur has become a limiting nutrient in its own right rather than something crops receive incidentally.
