Iron salts, folic acid and B-vitamins — the actives behind haematinic and iron-fortification formulations.
Hematinics are the substances involved in the proper formation of the components of blood — principally iron, folic acid and vitamin B12.
DIC supplies the raw materials that go into those formulations. What we sell is specification: a defined salt, a defined assay, and the documentation a pharmaceutical or nutraceutical manufacturer needs to qualify a lot.
We describe what these ingredients are and where they are used. Claims about what a finished product does belong to the manufacturer who makes it and to the regulator who approves the label.
Iron saltsIron is required for the synthesis of haemoglobin and acts as a cofactor in intracellular metabolism. We supply it as Ferrous Fumarate and Ferrous Sulphate — the two salts most formulations are built around.
Folic Acid (vitamin B9)Pteroylglutamic acid, required for the synthesis of nucleic acids and for cell replication. Folates are synthesised by bacteria and plants and hydrolysed to folic acid in the intestine.
Vitamin B12Also called cobalamin, for the cobalt it contains. It acts as a coenzyme assisting the enzymes that move folate into the cell interior.
Vitamin D3Formed under ultraviolet light from a sterol precursor, and supplied as cholecalciferol where dietary and sunlight sources are formulated around.
