An admixture changes how concrete behaves between mixing and setting — how much water it needs, how long it stays workable, and how fast it gains strength.
In Southeast Asian conditions the binding constraint is usually time: ambient temperature accelerates hydration, so the mix stiffens sooner than the placement schedule allows.

Sodium Gluconate The workhorse retarder and water reducer. It delays the set and cuts water demand at the same time, which is why it is the default where placements are long or ambient temperatures are high.
Tartrate retarders Tartaric acid and potassium sodium tartrate retard set in gypsum and cementitious systems where a gluconate profile is not the right curve.
Why retard at all In tropical conditions a mix can stiffen before it is placed and finished. Retardation extends the working window rather than changing the final strength the mix is designed for.
